TYPES OF COIL REELS
Motorized (Powered) Coil Reels: These reels advance coils into a loop, either a conventional loop or a “paddle loop,” which forms around the coil’s outer diameter to conserve floor space. Motorized reels are ideal for continuous operation and tight loop control, feeding material to a straightener or feeder.
Pull-Off Coil Reels: Used in a conventional feed line setup, pull-off reels are typically paired with a powered straightener that pulls the material off the reel. They can feature powered threading to help advance the coil's leading edge. A correctly adjusted drag brake maintains a tight line of steel between the pull-off reel and the powered straightener, preventing jerking and material damage.

THE SCIENCE BEHIND THE SOLUTION®
COIL REELS
A coil reel is a crucial piece of equipment used to hold and dispense coiled steel in a feed line. It is a modern alternative to the older coil cradle, offering greater safety and efficiency for handling various types of materials. There are two main types: motorized and pull-off. Motorized reels use a drive to advance material into a loop, while pull-off reels rely on a powered straightener to pull the material off the reel. Recent advancements in reel design, such as fail-safe brakes, automatic drag compensation, and hydraulic mandrel expansion, have improved their performance, making them more efficient and reliable for modern manufacturing operations.

WHAT IS A COIL CAR?
A coil car is a specialized piece of equipment designed to transport, stage, and position coiled steel in manufacturing environments. It enhances safety and efficiency by reducing the need for manual handling and minimizing reliance on overhead cranes. Operating on two axes—horizontal (X-axis) and vertical (Y-axis)—a coil car allows precise alignment of coils with processing equipment. Key features like rotating V nests, anti-tip arms, and coil risers help secure coils, prevent tipping, and accommodate partial or smaller coils with ease.
These features make coil cars an essential component for facilities handling large volumes of coiled material, such as in automotive or metal fabrication industries. By improving production speed and reducing workplace risks, coil cars streamline the coil handling process and support consistent, reliable operations.
